Recycling
At D.A.V. we believe it is important to recycle our waste products. That is why we recycle many things that are donated that we cannot use. For Example:
- Clothing that is too worn to resell
- Hats that aren't in a saleable condition
- Belts and purses that are no longer usable
- Cardboard (we get lots of donations in boxes)
- Shoes that are past their prime
In 2010 alone (with the help of Greenstar Recycling), we recycled over 16 paper tons of cardboard. That is equivalent to:
- 62 Metric Tons of Carbon Dioxide (MTCO2)
- Removing 13 cars from the nation's roads
- Eliminating the energy use of 1 home
- Saving 63 Barrels of oil and 2,966 gallons of gasoline
- Preserving 53 cubic yards of landfill space
- Saving 275 trees from being cut down.
We would like to recycle glass and plastic, but currently we have found no economic way of separating all the different types of glass and plastic we receive and cannot use. If anyone has any ideas I am open to them about recycling. Please call the store's number, listed above, and ask for Allen.
